Len and Sue Mriscin Establish Scholarship Fund in Honor of Mentor

While a student at Loras College, Len Mriscin (’62) learned the importance of personal integrity and ethics—views that later shaped his career and his life. That’s why he and his spouse Sue established a scholarship fund to aid future students in honor of the man who made his days at Loras possible.
A native of Gary, Indiana, Len hadn’t expected to attend college. But a change of heart after high school and a three-hour interview with then dean of students Fr. Eugene Kutsch (’47) opened the door to Loras and redirected his life.
“The experience of my being an RA and interacting regularly with Fr. Kutsch concerning ‘people’ issues shaped my thinking and developed my leadership skills,” Len says. “After graduate school at Indiana University, I chose to emphasize the human side of business. That led to a 33-year career in human resources, in an extensive variety of positions covering every aspect of human resources.”
With their scholarship, which honors the memory of the late Fr. Kutsch, Len and Sue are paving the way for future Loras scholars to receive the same quality education Len enjoyed. They encourage other alumni to join them in making a gift to support the College.
“I realize how important it is to continue to provide others with the same opportunities to learn how to think critically, to make decisions recognizing that there are absolute rights and wrongs, and the importance of behaving accordingly,” Len says. “In my opinion, personal integrity is the true measure of an individual.”
