Ted and Dianne Haas Use IRA Beneficiary Designation to Guarantee Future Student Success
Ted Haas (’72) knows that his education at Loras prepared him well for a rewarding life and successful career as an OB-GYN, which is why he has named the College as a beneficiary of a portion of his IRA.
As a graduate from a Catholic high school in northeast Iowa, attending Loras was a natural choice, Ted says. Fortunately, it was also a wise choice because the values he grew up with were reinforced at Loras.
“I still see Larry Hart writing calculus equations with a flurry on the blackboard,” recalls Ted, a first-generation college graduate. “Loras sets the standard for ethical behavior and hard work that will lead to success in all areas of life.”
With his wife of 51 years, Dianne, Ted has enjoyed a rewarding career as an OB-GYN in Ottumwa, Iowa. His work has allowed him to be present at “one of the most joyous moments in life: delivering about 7,000 babies,” he says.
Now Ted and Dianne want to ensure future students receive the same opportunities. That is why their IRA will support scholarships and give Loras the resources it needs to hire the best professors and provide state-of-the-art facilities.
He and Dianne urge other alumni to consider making a planned gift as they have.
“We owe it to future students to support Loras,” he says. “We both believe strongly in donation of time, talent, and treasure. A gift from your estate to Loras is a great way to pass on some of your treasure.”
